A Life Skills and Employment Readiness Program for Black Justice-Impacted Individuals
Inside-out (The Black Employment Support Program) empowers Black justice-impacted individuals to find pathways to sustainable employment. This program is derived from the R.E.A.L. School (Reality Education Applied Life Skills) Model and is designed to invigorate, inspire and empower.
The program is delivered at the Toronto South and Toronto East detention centers, as well as the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre.
The program teaches:
Conflict Resolution
Financial Literacy
Effective Communication
Positive Black Identity
Goal-Setting
Transferable skills development/allocation
Personal Development
Employment and Career Readiness
The program consists of twice-weekly group sessions. 8 individuals from each facility who have less than 6 months to release or parole are eligible for 1-on-1 case management with Urban Rez facilitators.
Inside-Out is run by Black facilitators with lived experience in the community, and is centered on creating a supportive, caring environment that uplifts Black people.
